Ole Miss Cornerback Deantre Prince Ready For New Pete Golding Defense in 2023

Senior cornerback Deantre Prince represented the Ole Miss Rebels at SEC Media Days last week, and he put a special emphasis on team unity and describing the Rebels defense as a brotherhood.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Charleston, Mississippi, native described Ole Miss as his dream school, wanting to play as a Rebel since childhood. Now, he is expected to lead the way in Pete Golding's secondary, especially in establishing a positive culture on a transfer-filled team. 

"I'm a veteran now, so I feel like it's my duty," Prince said. "If someone comes in as a transfer, I feel like it's my job to collect fun activities for them on the weekend so we can get know each other as a defense and as a team."

Prince expressed confidence in the upcoming season with a heavy infusion of defensive coaches joining the Ole Miss staff, including the aforementioned Pete Golding. 

"He's teaching us to become great defensive players," Prince said. "Very well-communicated and educated on the game."

Last season, Prince notched 39 tackles in 13 games with 10 pass breakups and an interception. This season, he aims to finish strong and help the Rebels turn around some of their defensive woes from a season ago.

"We've got to make sure we don't let one game define us," Prince said. "No matter who we lose to, we have a decision to make sure we push through the season, remain together instead of becoming individuals through a loss."

Prince and the Rebels open their season at home on Sept. 2 against the Mercer Bears.
