Oilers recall Raphael Lavoie, Adam Erne, and Philip Broberg from AHL, place Mattias Janmark and Dylan Holloway on LTIR

Janmark has been held off the scoresheet in seven games this season and hasn’t suited up for the Oilers since October 26 because of a shoulder injury. The Oilers placed Janmark on the LTIR retroactive to that date and he’s missed seven games this far, so he’ll be eligible to be activated ahead of Edmonton’s game with the Carolina Hurricanes next week. Players must be expected to miss 24 days or 10 NHL games in order to be eligible for the LTIR.

Holloway suffered a knee injury during Edmonton’s game against the New York Islanders on Monday when he fell awkwardly into the boards and the expectation is that he’ll miss “a few months” as a result. It’s an unfortunate break for the sophomore as Holloway appeared to really be hitting his stride over the past few games.

Placing Janmark and Holloway on the LTIR has opened up the salary cap flexibility for the Oilers to call up three players from their minor-league affiliate, so they now have an active roster that features two extra skaters rather than one.

Erne earned a contract with the Oilers after coming to training camp on a PTO and appeared in six games with the club before being sent down to Bakersfield. Broberg has suited up for eight games with the Oilers this season and has two points in four games with the Condors. Lavoie was sent to the AHL on Tuesday but that was just a paper transaction as he remained with the team.

Also worth noting about Lavoie is Tuesday’s transaction doesn’t restart his clock when it comes to waivers. If a player clears waivers as Lavoie did in October, they aren’t eligible to go on waivers again until they’ve either played 10 games or spent 30 days on an NHL roster. Wednesday’s game against Seattle would be Lavoie’s sixth with the Oilers this season.
