The Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal mural now rebuilt and reconstructed in the iconic Xian Xia tennis center
Cordon Press

Tennis enthusiasts were appalled when a newly built mural of Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz was defaced in Madrid. The mural, symbolizing Nadal passing down his legacy to Alcaraz, was vandalized just two days after its completion in their hometown.

Rafael Nadal, who has been the face of Spanish tennis for over 20 years, is now paving the way for 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz to continue his legacy. Nadal is gradually passing the torch to Alcaraz, ensuring the future of Spanish tennis. The mural was a perfect representation of this.

The defacing marked a devastating moment for the fans, but luckily it was rebuilt in a different place. The iconic Xian Xia tennis center in Shanghai now holds home to the iconic mural. The center once held the Shanghai Heineken Open in late 1990s and now has the iconic picture of Nadal and Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz praised Rafael Nadal for his influence in tennis

Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz has been making multiple headlines ever since he made his debut in professional tennis. He lifted Spanish tennis in the absence of Nadal and is ready to carry on the legacy the veteran had built.

A couple of weeks ago, Alcaraz had praised his idol in front of the Madrid Open Press. He expressed his gratitude for Nadal’s influence, his impact, and his vision for the sport. Nadal will end this year with one final lap. Despite his injury concerns, Rafa is trying his best to make his last season worthwhile, and Alcaraz doesn’t want to imagine tennis without his idol.

I don't want to imagine it yet. Like any Rafa fan, like any. Rafa fan, like any tennis fan, no one wants to imagine the tour without Rafa.  said Carlos Alcaraz

Currently, both players are gearing up for the French Open. Alcaraz is returning from a small forearm injury and hopes to win his maiden Slam on clay. On the other hand, Nadal’s participation is still uncertain. While all the reports suggest that he will play, no official confirmation has been given.
